SOFA Statistics Review
SOFA Statistics (sofastatistics.com) is an open source desktop statistics package designed for easy report output. It is AGPL-licensed and free. SOFA's design philosophy is that the user should be able to produce a clean, presentable report with minimal statistical training.
SOFA Statistics compared with StatVeda
- SOFA is free and open source under the AGPL (sofastatistics.com).
- SOFA's signature strength is report output: tables, charts and frequency analyses are styled for direct paste into a final document. The interface is built around producing presentable output rather than around the underlying analysis pipeline.
- SOFA covers descriptive statistics, frequencies, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, Wilcoxon, chi-square, Pearson and Spearman correlation, simple regression. It does not cover the full ANOVA family (factorial, split-plot, Latin square, lattice) or modern regression (logistic, Poisson, mixed-effects) natively.
- Where StatVeda fits: similar emphasis on a clean, citation-ready report (Word, PPT, four-style citation copy), plus the agricultural designs SOFA does not cover. SOFA remains the better fit when the priority is a polished single-page report from a basic descriptive or hypothesis test, on the desktop.
